Rose, David

David - who we think is a native of North Carolina - at least went to school here, and has been around for a while. He attended East Carolina University, attaining his degree in 1995: a BFA in Communication Arts with a double concentration in Graphic Design and Illustration.

After graduation, he went to Italy to work for NOI & VOI as a Graphic Designer and then returned to work for WRAL-5 in Raleigh in the same role. In 1997 David went on to work for Red Storm Entertainment as a Computer Artist. His 2D game credits include Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, Tom Clancy’s Ruthless.com, Tom Clancy’s Shadow Watch and Freedom: First Resistance, among others. He is currently working on a project for the X-BOX that is TBA.

While working for Red Storm, David began pursuing individual projects. These freelance design projects include merchandising for bands, t-shirt design, newspaper advertising, magazine illustrations, and book illustrations for the North Carolina Literary Review. During this time a crazy robot-monkey wormed its way into his mind. The result of this pseudo-simian-infection changed David’s creative direction. David started working with other mediums, creating his own pulp icons on raw canvas, cardboard, and wood. Robot Monkeys, Meat Toast, Mexican Wrestlers, among many other images appear in his work regularly.

Solo exhibitions of David’s paintings were presented by the Institute of Contemporary Art of Rosemary St. at the Henry’s Bistro Gallery in Chapel Hill in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and at the Cup-a-Joe Gallery, Timberlyne Chapel Hill, in 2001. He received the merit scholarship from the Alpha Fidelis Teacher’s Chapter of Durham, NC. Installations were also at Metro-Neapolitan of Peppers Pizza and Father and Son Gallery of Raleigh in 2002. 2003 David was featured at Kings Barcade - El Dia Del Destino Solo Exhibition and Performance Art.

Rose hasn’t died yet and, in fact, still exists.
